Oneus Pendant

This project I worked with a new category of stone: Faceted Stone. In all my past projects, I primarily worked with cabochons (flat backed stones) therefore working with faceted stones pushed me to learn new techniques and tools. This particular piece used a technique called tension setting which is a “setting that uses compression to hold a gemstone in place”.

  • Metal: Silver and Sky Blue Topaz

  • 2 class period + outside lab hours—approximately 9 hours

  • Tension setting with faceted stone

The Inspiration

I often take inspiration from the hobbies I enjoy, which include my music taste. I am quite the Kpop enthusiasts to which I take alot of creative influence from. This piece is inspired by one of my favorite groups Oneus and their primary logo.

The reason why I chose the sky blue topaz was because the official colors of Oneus is blue and green, however blue is often the more used color. The center circle piece is soldered to the middle rod preventing it from spinning, while the outer circle has the freedom to spin. This represents their fandom name TOMOON which has an Earth to Moon metaphor meaning— “just like the Earth (representing Oneus) and the Moon (Fans), I revolve around you”.
